The natural and cultural-historical wealth of the Municipality of Ravno has put this municipality, especially the village of Ravno, on the world tourist map, thanks to the award of the title of one of the most beautiful villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The village of Ravno, located on a hill at the southeastern edge of Popovo polje, has flourished as a tourist destination thanks to its privileged geographical location. The proximity of Dubrovnik, the Adriatic Sea and Medjugorje makes it an irresistible destination for visitors from all over the world. With the addition of a new title that is the pride of the locals, more and more visitors are enthusiastically discovering the charms of this small area.

DARIJAN PEHAR, president of the Ravno Tourist Board

“The idea of these most beautiful villages originates from France in 1981, where the branding and standardization of those villages and rural places was actually recognized immediately, and soon three more countries joined, later more, and it is now a global network, or federation, and this year also Bosnia and Herzegovina is included in that federation.”

EVA BLAŽEVIĆ, Municipality of Ravno

“This project also means to us, in addition to the promotion of not only the town of Ravno, but also the tourism of the entire municipality, it has opened various opportunities for economic development, for the return of the young population, for starting some family farms, holiday homes and the like.”

The locals of this region are proud of stone and karst more than anyone else in all of Herzegovina, because the knowledge of stonemasonry is what this region has been known for throughout history. Therefore, the tourist board explains that they will soon complete the offer with workshops and presentations on the crafts of the region.

With traditional architecture and untouched nature, the village of Ravno is located on the route of the famous Ćiro bicycle path, and the Vjetrenica cave is also nearby.

The Windmill Cave was visited by 30% more tourists in April than the previous year, which testifies to the growing interest in this natural beauty.

MARIJA SLOBOĐAN, tourist guide of the Vjetrenica cave

“Vjetrenica is one of the largest and most beautiful in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world. We are very satisfied, we expect around 20,000 visitors this year.”

In order to keep the title of the most beautiful village, the locals are obliged to maintain high standards, carefully preserve the nature and appearance of the place, and cherish the rich cultural heritage. Through this recognition, Bosnia and Herzegovina can become a proud member of the global network of the most beautiful villages, promoting its natural beauty and cultural heritage around the world, BHRT writes:
