Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić said he expects recruitment for mandatory military service to begin in September, with the first recruits arriving at the barracks in March next year.
“We are ready and I am very proud of all members of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces who have worked very dedicatedly over the past year to prepare the conditions for accepting the first recruits,” Gašić said.
He told RTS that recruitment will begin after the competent institution assesses that mandatory military service can enter the process by passing a law before the National Assembly of Serbia.
Gašić said that the security situation in the world and the region is very complex and that regular military service is returning in other countries because it has proven to be a necessity.
