World-renowned Italian architect, Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo, and longtime friend of Ars Aevi, Renzo Piano, has sent a heartfelt message to the citizens of Sarajevo to mark the beginning of the construction of the Ars Aevi Museum, more than two decades after he first envisioned its architectural design.

The message was shared by Ars Aevi Sarajevo and the Embassy of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which expressed their gratitude to the acclaimed architect for his continued support and inspiring words.

“We are sincerely grateful to Architect Renzo Piano for his meaningful words of appreciation. They are a source of great pride and a powerful encouragement to continue the work we have begun,” Ars Aevi Sarajevo and the Italian Embassy said.

In his message, Piano welcomed the long-awaited start of construction, describing it as a moment of great joy.

“The beginning of the construction of the Ars Aevi Museum is news that fills me with joy,” he said.

Piano emphasized that the museum represents the resilience of Sarajevo and its commitment to the future through culture.

“This museum is a symbol of the strength of a city that has been able to look to the future through culture. It is a project born out of solidarity and the conviction that art can bring people together and build bridges,” he noted.

The renowned architect also expressed his hope that the Ars Aevi Museum will become an inclusive cultural space for all citizens, particularly young people.

“I wish Sarajevo that Ars Aevi will become a home open to everyone, especially to the younger generations. With affection, I send you my warmest greetings and congratulations,” Piano concluded.

The start of construction marks a major milestone for the Ars Aevi project, which has long been regarded as one of Sarajevo’s most significant cultural initiatives and a symbol of international solidarity through contemporary art.
