A contingent of the Romanian armed forces has arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the rotation of forces within EUFOR’s Operation Althea, and four IAR-330 helicopters have also arrived at the Butmir base near Sarajevo.
Romania is taking command of EUFOR forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is therefore making additional increases to its contingent in Operation Althea, especially in air units.
The Romanian forces were delivered by transport aircraft, supported by four IAR-330 helicopters that will be deployed at the Butmir base.
With the delivery of the air force, Romanian pilots will take over the air component of the mission from their Hungarian colleagues who have so far led this component of Operation Althea.
Romanian General Florian-Marian Barbu is expected to take over command of EUFOR at the end of this month.
