The ceremony marking the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag will be held today in Gadžin Han, not far from Niš, the Serbian Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs announced.

The gathering will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Dragutin Matić Square.

The Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag, celebrated on September 15 by Serbia and the Republika Srpska, aims to strengthen the unity between the Serbian people in Serbia and the Republika Srpska, as well as to strengthen the cult of the national flag.

The holiday was symbolically established to be celebrated on the day marking the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki Front in 1918, and has been celebrated since 2020.

The idea of establishing a joint holiday for Serbia and the Republika Srpska was made public after a meeting between the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, with the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and the leadership of the Republika Srpska in August 2020.

On the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Serbian Unity, numerous accompanying events are being organized, and one of the largest will be the military parade “The Power of Unity” on September 20 in Belgrade, when, in addition to the new and modernized equipment with which the Serbian Army has been equipped in the previous period, equipment from the development of the domestic defense industry will be presented.

The President of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandić previously announced that as part of the celebration of the Day of Serbian Unity, the autumn session of the Parliamentary Forum of Serbia and the Republika Srpska will be held in Banja Luka on September 17 and 18.

The Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag is also celebrated by Serbs in the diaspora.
