Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed on Saturday that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump is scheduled for August 15 in the US state of Alaska.

Ushakov highlighted the logistical advantages of holding the meeting in Alaska, noting its proximity to Russia across the Bering Strait.

“The American side has just announced an agreement to organize a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, on Friday, August 15, in Alaska. Russia and the United States are close neighbors, they share a common border. If you don’t want to waste time, you can use it again and again, Federalna writes.

Trump previously announced on Truth Social that he expects to meet with Putin in Alaska on August 15. It will be the first meeting between the leaders since Trump returned to the White House in January.

Ushakov added that Alaska and the Arctic region represent a natural intersection of Russian and American interests, with the potential for major binary projects.

But, of course, the president will focus on discussing the option for achieving lasting peace in resolving the Ukrainian crisis,” he noted.

Preparations for the summit, described by Ushakov, are a “challenging process” that is underway, with both sides committing to intensive coordination.

“In the coming days, Moscow and Washington will devote themselves to intensive practical and political preparations for the high-level meeting in Alaska. This promises to be a difficult process, but we will actively and intensively engage in it,” he said.

The Kremlin said it expected the next presidential meeting after Alaska to be in Russia.

“Looking ahead, it is natural that we will strive to hold the next presidential meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on Russian territory. President,” Ushakov added.
