A representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH), Sabina Cudic, has submitted an initiative to remove the SNSD from the leadership of the BiH Parliament. The reason, as she stated, is the endangerment of peace and the European path.
“The initiative has already been submitted, it has reached the registry, and tomorrow morning it will receive its reference number. It has been processed and delivered to the secretary. This initiative concerns, among other things, sanctions and the lack of commitment from the SNSD leadership to the European path of BiH. Laws have been agreed upon and harmonized but remain in drawers due to political blockades and the incompetence of the authorities,” Sabina Cudic stated yesterday.
According to her, SNSD’s actions threaten peace and stability in the country, which, she claims, has also been documented in statements by the United States (U.S.) Department of State.
“This is no longer just a matter of the territorial integrity of BiH but also a direct attack on peace agreements in the region. Therefore, my goal is for this initiative to serve as a red card to SNSD and their approach to the mechanisms of governance,” she added.
Cudic called on opposition parties in Republika Srpska (RS) to decide whether they will continue to support Milorad Dodik’s policies.
“This is an appeal to all opposition parties in BiH, but primarily to the opposition in RS, to answer the question of whether they will jump into this abyss alongside Milorad Dodik. Will they sacrifice peace, the European path, prosperity, the money we are entitled to, and the development we are entitled to, just to save primarily the personal interests of Milorad Dodik and the narrow circle around him,” she said.
A question for Dragan Covic and HDZ
Furthermore, Cudic stated that the initiative also raises the question of Dragan Covic‘s and HDZ’s position in the current political situation.
“I think Dragan Covic will do what he has been doing for decades, adapting like a chameleon to new situations. In that sense, I do not expect radical moves from HDZ. HDZ assesses the situation and adapts to the circumstances, so HDZ will certainly seek its interest. Whether that interest will be tied to Milorad Dodik, I think it would not be wise, primarily not for HDZ, nor in the interest of Croats in BiH or all the citizens of BiH. I would like to emphasize here that this initiative specifically addresses the citizens of RS because I believe I am primarily thinking about their interests – no less than the interests of citizens in Sarajevo,” she emphasized.
Hope for changes with the U.S. administration
When asked about the expectations of the RS authorities regarding potential changes in U.S. administration policy with the arrival of Donald Trump, Cudic responded that such hopes are not realistic.
“U.S. foreign policy, like that of many other serious countries, is a kind of tanker that is difficult to turn and maneuver significantly. On the other hand, BiH, it is already clear, is not a priority issue for Donald Trump. Frankly, the steps that will draw the line have already been taken and are being taken, which will also counterbalance the hopes of people like Milorad Dodik that they will find favor with the U.S. administration. The U.S. administration is Donald Trump but also much more than Donald Trump, and even these latest actions show that these hopes remain just hopes. We know that hope is the last refuge,” concluded Cudic.
