sandaThe Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić received today the acclaimed skater Sanda Dubravčić, who lit the flame of the Winter Olympic Games (ZOI) in 1984 in Sarajevo, and until then it was the best organized Olympics ever in the world.

After 30 years, Dubravčić is back in the capital city again in order to take part in the 30th anniversary of ZOI, and she will light the symbolic Olympic flame today with Žana Novaković in order to connect the memory of the ZOI ’84 and the beginning of the preparations for the EYOF 2017.

‘’It is nice to be in Sarajevo after 30 years. I have to admit that it is a great honor and I am very happy to be in this city again, which was the host of the of the last humane and warm Olympics’’, said Dubravčić.

She recalled the Olympics 30 years ago, and said that she could not attend most of the events, but regardless, she felt the warmth of Sarajevo.

She says she felt that warmth yesterday walking the streets of Sarajevo, and when people stopped her on the street and wished her a warm welcome. ‘’I was very touched because people in Zagreb do not stop me on the street and do not approach me with such love and warmth’’, said Dubravčić. She added: ‘’I am very emotionally attached to Sarajevo. I have to say that in 1994 I was the head of the Mission of the Croatian Olympic Committee in Lilehamer. Then it was the 10 years since the Winter Games in Sarajevo, and the B&H Olympic Committee then made a very moving film that showed Sarajevo in 1984 and Sarajevo in 1994. It touched me so much that I cried, said Dubravčić.

‘’I think the task of the mayor and everyone is to renew winter sports again and your capacities, and for Sarajevo to be again what it once was, which is a real Olympic city’’, said Dubravčić.

Sarajevo Mayor Ivo Komšić expressed his satisfaction to be in the position of Mayor of Sarajevo at a moment when the B&H capital is celebrating 30 years since the Olympic Games in this city.

‘’We all know what the Olympics meant, and Sanda is returning those memories to us once again. Sarajevo citizens are very emotionally attached to their Olympics. 30 years since the Olympics is a chance to recall once again those brightest days in the history of B&H and Sarajevo’’, said Mayor Komšić.

She will take part today in a special event in escorting the B&H team on their way to Sochi for the upcoming Winter Olympics and the promotion of EYOF 2017.
