The 9th Days of Architecture, organized by LIFT – Spatial Initiatives, were opened in the City Hall in Sarajevo yesterday.
The festival was opened with the exhibition of young Vienna architects (YOVA) and the vdieo mapping of the dome of the City Hall. Over 300 invitees attended the opening organized by LIFT – Spatial Initiatives and the Embassy of Austria.
As it was the case last year, the opening of the days of Architecture was marked with video mapping of one significant architectural facility in Sarajevo. This year, the organizers chose the dome of the City Hall because they wanted to promote the preservation of prominent architectural facilities in BiH in an unconventional way this year as well. Three-minute mapping showed the particularities of the City Hall dome and pointed out the variety of geometrical elements on the dome. Video mapping was done entirely in domestic production by the organization LIFT – Spatial Initiatives and BLOW UP, while Billain was in charge of music.
Addressing speeches were held by festival coordinators Nedim Mutevelić, Jasmin Sirčo and Gorica Mehić, Ambassador of Austria to BiH His Excellency Martin Pammer, representative of the City of Vienna Andrea Kreppenhofer, and the Mayor of Sarajevo Prof. Dr. Ivo Komšić.
One of the festival coordinators, Nedim Mutevelić, highlighted in his addressing speech: “We proudly say that this is the ninth year that we are organizing the Days of Architecture in continuity. Over nine years, the Days of Architecture presented over a hundred local and international architects and created a kind of ‘additional school’ for both students and architects who understand the value of unity and knowledge exchange.”
Days of Architecture will last until May 22 and will take place at several locations in Sarajevo. Over twenty lecturers from the region and Europe will present themselves on two stages in four days, giving their perspective on the topic “Architecture before investment”.
Several exhibitions, children’s workshop, site specific workshop ‘VHS architecture’ and a series of other events will be held within the festival.
