Representatives of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly have given the green light for additional borrowing based on the amended loan agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), paving the way for the continuation of the implementation of the “Ilidža – Hrasnica Tram Line” project.

The Proposal for a Decision on Accepting Additional Borrowing Based on Agreement No. 1 on Amendment to the Loan Agreement of 1 February 2023 between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was adopted.

This amendment provides for additional financing for the implementation of the tram infrastructure modernization project in the amount of five million euros, all with the aim of improving public transport, increasing the capacity and safety of urban traffic, and improving the quality of life of the citizens of the Sarajevo Canton, according to the Sarajevo Canton.

This loan amount is taken for 15 years, with a grace period of three years. With this decision, the Sarajevo Canton Assembly gives its consent to the competent authorities to accept additional borrowing and take all necessary legal and administrative actions related to the implementation of this project.

At yesterday’s session of the Cantonal Assembly, the Draft Decision on granting consent to the Construction Institute and the Ministry of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton to conclude a Purchase and Sale Agreement for a temporary facility for demolition on the Ilidža – Hrasnica railway route was previously discussed and adopted. The facility is located at 38 Harisa Merzića Street.

The decision enables the competent authorities to conclude a purchase and sale agreement and take all necessary legal and administrative actions in connection with the transferred ownership of the facility, which will be removed as part of the implementation of the tram line construction project. Removing the facility will create space for the unhindered continuation of the construction of the tram infrastructure, in accordance with the previously adopted Resettlement Plan for the users of the affected facilities, which provides for relocation and compensation measures.

The assembly session was adjourned during the discussion on the Proposal for a Decision on Accepting Additional Borrowing Based on Agreement No. 1 on the Amendment to the Loan Agreement concluded on April 12, 2022 between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the implementation of the “Sarajevo e-Mobility Public Transport” project.
