Sarajevo Film Festival presents Special Environmental Awareness Award

In order to raise climate change awareness, Sarajevo Film Festival is introducing a new award this year: Special Environmental Awareness Award, sponsored by the United Nations Development Program in BiH.

With Special Environmental Awareness Award, Sarajevo Film Festival contributes to raising awareness on the importance of environmental protection, as part of its activities and efforts to be an environmentally responsible festival and a leader of positive changes and practices in the field of sustainability.
Films from all Festival programmes dealing with environmental issues and contributing to raising awareness and a more sustainable future are competing for Special Environmental Awareness Award.
At this year’s 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, seven films from nine programmes are in competition for the Special Environmental Awareness Award. The films competing for the award will be screened in the following programmes: Competition Programme – Feature Film, Competition Programme – Short Film, Competition Programme – Student Film, Kinoscope, European Short Film, Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region, TeenArena, Human Rights Day and BH Film Programme.
Films in competition for Special Environmental Awareness Award:
1. HOLY ELECTRICITY, Tato Kotetshivili, (Georgia, Netherlands, 2024, 95 min.) / Competition Programme – Feature Film
2. GAIA, Nermin Hamzagić, Enis Čišić, (Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2024, 11 min.) / Competition Programme – Short Film, BH Film Programme
3. CHILDREN OF THE BIRD, Julia Tudisco (Hungary, 2024, 12 min.) / Competition Programme – Student Film
4. PEPE, Nelson Carlo de Los Santos Arias (Dominican Republic, Namibia, Germany, France, 2024,122 min.) / Kinoscope
5. THE SKY ABOVE ZENICA, Zlatko Pranjić and Nanna Frank Møller, (Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2024, 90 min.) / Human Rights Day, BH Film Programme
6. FLOW, Gints Zilbalodis (Latvia, France, Belgium, 2024, 84 min.) / TeenArena and Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region
7. 3MWh, Marie-Magdalena Kochová (Czech Republic, 2024, 12 min.) / European Shorts
The award will be decided by a three-member jury, consisting of: editor, assistant director and sustainability consultant (film and TV) Dörte Schneider Garcia (Germany), film programmer, selector, researcher and writer Julian Ross (Netherlands) and screenwriter Misan Sagay (United Kingdom).
Special Environmental Awareness Award will be presented at the official award ceremony of the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, on August 23. The monetary amount of the award is EUR 5,000, and the sponsor of the award is the United Nations Development Program in BiH (UNDP in BiH).
 
 The 30th Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from 16 to 23 August 2024.
