sarajevo_openThe Association of Skating Sports B&H will organize the first international competition in figure skating called ‘Sarajevo Open’ from 31 January to 2 February in the Olympic Hall ‘Juan Antonio Samaranch-Zetra’.

The President of the Association Zikrija Đonko said that this will be the highest ranked competition in winter sports this season in Sarajevo and the central event to mark the 30th anniversary of the Sarajevo Olympics.

‘’This is the first official skating competition in Sarajevo of the International Skating Union (ISU). In addition to skaters from the region, competitors from other European countries will take part. At this moment, we have official registration from 178 participants from 14 countries, as well as 11 international judges. The competition will be held in 18 categories, from boys and girls to seniors (men and women). We tried to fulfill the criteria of ISU by using the new judges scoring’’, said Đonko.

The Association of Skating Sports has for far provided 40.000 BAM for technical equipment and the hall, and the total organization of this huge international competition is between 70.000 and 80.000 BAM.

‘’We call on the relevant bodies to help us because with this competition, we are testing the organizational capabilities for the Olympic Youth Festival-EYOF 2017 in Sarajevo’’, said Đonko.

B&H will present 10 young skaters at ‘Sarajevo Open’, and the highest expectations are on Arijana Tirak, the state champion, who will participate in the junior category.

Skaters from Cyprus, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Finland, Czech Republic, Latvia, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Romania and B&H will take part at ‘Sarajevo Open.
