Sarajevo will soon receive a monument to Ban Kulin, one of the most significant rulers of medieval Bosnia, and the project will be presented to the public on Friday, August 28th.

Bosniak Cultural Community is organizing the presentation of the monument project ‘Kulin, Ban of Bosnia,’ authored by academic sculptor Adis Lukač.

The presentation will be held at 10 a.m. in the Ceremonial Hall of the Directorate of the Bosniak Cultural Community in Sarajevo, on the occasion of Bosnian Literacy Day.

The Bosniak Cultural Community is the initiator and project leader. The monument is planned to be erected at one of the prominent cultural locations in the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, which is an institutional partner in its realization.

The exact location where the monument will be erected has not yet been specified, but, as announced, the project will be presented to the public as part of the events marking Bosnian Literacy Day.

Ban Kulin ruled Bosnia from 1180 to 1204, and his reign is considered one of the most peaceful and prosperous in the history of the medieval Bosnian state.

A special place in history belongs to the Charter of Ban Kulin issued on August 29, 1189, to Prince Krvaš of Dubrovnik.

It is the oldest preserved Bosnian state and diplomatic document written in the vernacular language, which makes the Charter exceptionally valuable to the history of Bosnian statehood, language, and literacy.

The Bosniak Cultural Community established this day in 2019 on the occasion of 830th anniversary of the Charter of Ban Kulin, to promote the Bosnian language and literacy in the Bosnian language.

This year’s commemoration will be especially marked by the presentation of the monument to Ban Kulin, which is expected to be placed in a public space in Sarajevo once it is completed, Klix.ba writes.
