The importance of judicial reform for the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the strong partnership between the EU and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC BiH) in achieving progress, are the key conclusions of the meeting that the Head of the EU Delegation/EU Special Representative Johann Sattler held today with the president of the HJPC BiH Halil Lagumdžija and the director of the HJPC Secretariat Admir Suljagić in the EU Delegation.

As reported, referring to the recently adopted amendments to the Law on the HJPC of BiH, Ambassador Sattler emphasized the need for the HJPC to intensify its work in order to fully apply the new legal provisions. Sattler also highlighted the significant support that the EU provides to the HJPC of BiH in the implementation of reforms, Fena reports.

The President of the HJPC Lagumdžija expressed the readiness of the HJPC to implement all agreed activities related to judicial reform. With the support of the projects financed by the European Union ‘EU support for judicial reform in BiH’ and ‘EU4Justice’, the Secretariat of the HJPC of BiH is preparing an Action Plan for the implementation of the adopted amendments to the Law on the HJPC of BiH.

Sattler and Lagumdžija agreed on the importance of applying all relevant European and international standards, especially the recommendations of the Venice Commission, in the process of drafting a new law on the HJPC, with the aim of preserving the independence of the judiciary in BiH and ensuring legal certainty.

The interlocutors emphasized that the European Union remains a strong partner of the HJPC of Bosnia and Herzegovina in establishing a functional and efficient judicial system that will act in the best interest of all citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
