The regular meeting of the Coordination of the Directors of the Federal Police Administration and the Police Commissioners/Directors of the Cantonal Ministries of Interior in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) ended yesterday in Konjic.

Namely, the participants discussed, among other things, the security situation in the FBiH for January and February 2022, as well as the achieved level of police work in all segments in FBiH, with emphasis on the possible impact on security – crime in FBiH due to armed conflict Russia and Ukraine.

Observing the security situation in the FBiH, according to statistics of the cantonal ministries of interior and federal ministry of interior, for the period January 2022 compared to the same month in 2021, it is characterized by a decrease in all observed parameters, including crime, a number of accidents, the number registered violations in the field of public order and peace as well as the number of attacks on authorized officials.

The trend of decreasing the mentioned parameters is also characterized by the state of safety in February 2022 compared to February 2021, except for the number of traffic accidents, where a smaller increase was recorded.

Information on upcoming activities within the UNDP PILLAR project was presented at the meeting, related to the organization of awareness-raising campaigns on responsible weapons possession, as well as the dangers of illegal weapons possession.

Also, the participants were presented with information on the questionnaire that UNDP will submit to police agencies in FBiH, which aims to analyze the progress so far in implementing the Regional Roadmap for Small Arms Control in the Western Balkans until 2024 and identify specific needs of police agencies in areas of small arms and light weapons in terms of the need for further equipment and training.

Considering the overall indicators from the security segments: crime, public order and peace, traffic and police activities, for the period January and February 2022, it was concluded that the security situation in the FBiH is at a satisfactory level.
