At the archaeological site “Kopošići”, a dozen kilometers away from Ilijaš near Sarajevo, almost completely preserved skeletal remains of one person have been found, in the tomb that is assumed to belong to Mirko Radojević, father of Batić, the Grand Duke of Bosnia!
The Pearl
Radojević was a member of the medieval nobility for 25 years, in the heyday of the former Bosnian state ruled by the King Tvrtko I.
The members of the family to which he belonged began to carry patronymic Mirković by him. It is known that he had several sons, one of which was trapped in the Battle of Kosovo, and the most famous of them is, of course, Grand Duke Batić Mirković, who, according to Dr. Srdjan Rudić, was mentioned in five charters from 1405 to 1420.
Prof. Edin Bujak, one of the executives of the research at Kopošići, which began last week with the aim of final determination of condition of stećak tombstones and tombs in this necropolis (declared as national monument in 2003) and its later refurbishment, stated that the skeleton is very well preserved.
Brocade cloth contains gold and silver thread, and they found one pearl right next to it.
“This is a rare finding, and if I dare to say, even sensational. A similar pearl was found during the excavation of King Tvrtko’s mantle, “explained Prof. Bujak.
Transportation of the Cloth
Conservator from the National Museum arrived to Kopošići right after the discovery, in order to transport the cloth with the least damage possible.
The research in Kopošići, that arose, we recall, from the enormous desire of lovers in B&H’s heritage of Ilijaš municipality, to make public more familiar with the necropolis with more than 30 stećak tombstones and the nearby ancient city of Dubrovnik, already proved to be justified and all funds allocated by Municipality Ilijaš from their small budgets will pay off for sure.
However, as we found out from Perica Mijatović, how much this research is actually important to the people of the local area is shown by the fact that many of them want to bring a breakfast to team of archaeologists, consisting of professors and students from the University of Sarajevo.
