Serbian President: I will never recognize the Independence of Kosovo, these are notorious Lies

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić denied on Thursday the allegations of a part of the Serbian opposition, which claims that Vučić is ready to list the independence of Kosovo.

“I will never sign the independence of Kosovo, and to the credit of all those on the Serbian political scene who tell such lies,” said Vučić in a video message on his Instagram profile, adding that he will always respect the Serbian constitution and stick to the law and the oath he took.

“As they said in the last campaign that they are against sanctions against Russia, and that I will introduce them on April 3, and after the election I did not do that, and they are still advocating for sanctions against the Russian Federation to this day,” he said.

The right-wing opposition, which claims to be “patriotic”, opposes the Ohrid Agreement and demands an end to negotiations on the normalization of relations that Serbia and Kosovo have been conducting under the auspices of the European Union (EU) since 2011.

In February, in Brussels, Vučić and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti reached an agreement on the path to the normalization of relations, and on March 18, an annex to the implementation of that agreement was agreed in Ohrid. However, the agreements were never signed because it was rejected by Serbian President Vučić, who also repeated last week in Brussels that Serbia cannot accept Kosovo’s membership in the UN or Kosovo’s independence.

On the sidelines of the EU summit, Vučić and Kurti talked separately for hours with the leaders of Germany, France and Italy, Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron and Giorgia Meloni, and with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, and special envoy Miroslav Lajčak.

After that, Borrell pointed out that progress in the negotiations on the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo was not possible because both sides set preconditions that were unacceptable to the other side, Fena reports.
