Serbian President presented Repellent, an anti-Drone System procured from Russia

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic presented the anti-drone system Repellent from Russia, which was purchased for the needs of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The system is intended to interfere with the control of drones and covers an area of 30 kilometers, it was said during the display of weapons and military equipment in Nis on the occasion of the ”Sretenje” – Statehood Day.

Vucic announced at the end of January that the Russian mobile anti-drone system for electronic jamming would be presented on the occasion of the Sretenje, but he did not specify when the system was imported, except that Serbia “paid for it a long time ago”.

On February 14th, during the display of weapons in Nis, in the south of Serbia, he announced further investments in equipping the Serbian Armed Forces, especially in artillery.

Due to cooperation with Russia and China in the field of defense, Serbia, as a candidate for membership in the European Union (EU), has been repeatedly criticized from Brussels.

It has intensively acquired military equipment and weapons from Russia since 2016.

However, since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, no new arms procurement contracts have been concluded. Vucic stated in mid-September 2022 that part of the earlier deliveries did not arrive due to the war in Ukraine.

Among those earlier deliveries, the Repellent anti-drone system was also mentioned.

Due to the invasion of Ukraine, Russia is under sanctions from the EU, the United States (U.S.) and other Western countries.

Serbia refuses to comply with those sanctions, Slobodna Evropa reports.
