Serbian Prime Minister: Arresting Dodik is a Path to Civil War

Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević has threatened that no one will try to arrest the top leadership of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska, saying “that would be the path to civil war”.

“I hope they will have enough sense that no one will actually try to arrest Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, Speaker of the National Assembly Nenad Stevandić and Prime Minister Radovan Višković, and because these are the people who guard the Republika Srpska MUP. That is the path to civil war”, said Vučević.

In a well-known narrative, he said that there are “those who are politically above Sarajevo”.

“Absolutely, that is clear to everyone. There are those who are the sponsors of everything that is being done”, said Vučević.

He claimed that “some want Serbia to be on the brink of civil war and that it is no wonder that this is spilling over into Republika Srpska”.

“Then the question arises whether we are aware of all this and whether we understand what is happening to us? And whether we are preparing to avoid it, that is, whether we can react to such a possible situation or are we preoccupied with our own problems and the collapse of our own state, not taking into account what is happening in our neighborhood, not taking into account what is happening in a part of our people, and therefore it is impossible for it not to spill over or not to be felt in Serbia,” said Vučević.

Vučević’s threatening statements have no basis in the factual situation. The arrest of Dodik and his associates, if it happens, is the result of his failure to respond to the summons of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, which is the usual procedure for any suspect.

The claims that this could lead to a civil war are no longer pressure, but a direct threat to the judicial bodies and police agencies in BiH that should carry out Dodik’s detention.
