Real winter is coming. In the coming days, serious snowfall across the country. Locally, freezing rain as well, so caution is advised, and there is an appeal not to travel unless absolutely necessary. In the south of the country, heavy rain with the possibility of flash floods, it was announced yesterday.
Furthermore, winter temperatures are expected, especially in the second part of the upcoming week, with locally double-digit sub-zero temperatures.
“With today (January 3rd), a change in the weather has begun, shifting us from mild conditions to harsher winter characteristics. After a period of weather monotony, a turbulent period is coming with plenty of precipitation. Already today, smaller amounts of snow have whitened parts of Bosnia, first its north and northeast, while an intensification of precipitation is expected from tomorrow (January 4th), when a large part of the country should receive the first more significant snowfall of this year,” it was announced yesterday.
Moreover, today, January 4th, from the morning hours, we can expect more abundant precipitation.
“At first rain, which, with a rapid drop in temperatures, would first turn into snow in Krajina and in the north of Bosnia. During the day and in the afternoon hours, this will also happen in much of the rest of the country, except in most of Herzegovina, southwestern and southeastern Bosnia, which would remain in the warm sector of the cyclone with heavier rain and snow on the higher mountains of these regions.
In the evening hours, with the intrusion of warmer air in the higher layers of the atmosphere, it will spread from the above-mentioned regions to parts of central, eastern, and northeastern Bosnia. Thus, in these areas, precipitation would change from snow to sleet and freezing rain, since temperatures in the near-surface layer of the atmosphere would remain around and below zero.
In the north, northwest, west, and parts of central Bosnia that gravitate toward these areas, snow will remain, with the formation of a more significant snow cover of 10-30 cm, locally up to 50 cm by Monday morning,” it was announced.
The beginning of the next week (January 5th to January 8th) will be marked by a series of new cyclones bringing new precipitation.
“Rain and snow, with an increase in the height of the snow cover. By midweek, there will be snow in parts of Herzegovina, southwestern and southeastern Bosnia as well, that is, in those areas that during Sunday and Monday remain in the warm sector of the first cyclone.
In the second part of the week, a gradual cessation of precipitation and, with clearing, more pronounced morning sub-zero temperatures,” it was concluded in the announcement.
