Sexism and Insults in the Canton Sarajevo Assembly and the Federal Parliament

The sexist comments of parliamentarians and representatives in the Canton Sarajevo (CS) Assembly about Sabina Cudic and Aleksandra Nikolic are extremely disgusting. The Prime Minister of CS, Edin Forto, also reacted.

At yesterday’s 54th working session of the CS Assembly, there was a discussion. The occasion was a sexist comment by Dzevad Poturak (SBB) about the dress in which Aleksandra Nikolic, Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the CS, came to the session.

“The way she dressed, she should have only brought the tuber and the tomato with herself. Very inappropriately dressed as if she went to the beach,” said Poturak.

Nasa Stranka (Our Party) Representative Vildana Beslija invited the Chairman of the CS Assembly, Elvedin Okeric to react.

“As a woman, I would ask you personally to bring order, that is, to not allow the sexist speech of the representative Poturak, who just gave the minister a very derogatory opinion,“ said Beslija.

Poturak justified himself by saying that he had not offended the representative and that it was not the right way to come to work in a see-through dress, so Okeric turned off his microphone.

“If I were the prime minister, if I were a representative of male population, surely none of you would ever address me like that. I don’t know if you were encouraged by the fact that I am a woman and I represent the Government or that my last name is Nikolic or something else,” said the minister.

Poturak’s sexist performance was also condemned by CS Prime Minister Edin Forto.

Primitive comments and insults were also experienced by Sabina Cudic, Federal representative (Our party).

“DF and SDA are discussing whether it is possible to love me during the debate in the parliament on the constitutional arrangement of BiH. Because it is a priority issue for them,” wrote Sabina Cudic on her Instagram profile.

“Who gives you the right to comment”, “Your facial expression, I wonder who can love you, even politically.” “I know some people who love her, don’t they (laughs)” – these are just some of the comments of SDA and DF representatives about Sabina Cudic.
