The agreement on the support for “Vodovod Sarajevo (PUC Water and Sewage Sarajevo)” yesterday was signed by the Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo Elmedin Konakovic and Deputy Director of EBRD for the Infrastructure Sector, Lin O’Grady. PUC “Water and sewage” is in charge of the implementation of this agreement.

“Reconstruction of the water supply system was and remained a priority of the Government of Canton Sarajevo,” said Prime Minister Konakovic, and added that they have decided for funds of the EBRD because they are favorable for the realization of these kinds of projects.

The EBRD loan in the amount of 25 million EUR will be realized in three tranches.

“The first and the second tranche will amount to 10 million EUR, and the third tranche will amount to 5 million EUR.” Funds will be taken on 15 years with the grace period of 3 years,” noted Prime Minister Konakovic, and he also noted that in case that funds from the first tranche are sufficient for solving the problem of water supply, then they can give up on the second and third tranche without any negative interest.

He noted that 10 million EUR from the first tranche will be used for reconstruction of the water and sewage network and procurement of the equipment, and all of this will be done in cooperation with consultants of EBRD.

“It is very important for the funds from the Loan Agreement to become operational now, and I think that there are no obstacles on that path,” said O’Grady, adding that the funds will be available to PUC Water and Sewage Sarajevo as soon as the agreement is adopted at the level of the FBiH.

According to her, it is necessary to start with the realization of the project as soon as possible, since citizens will be interested to see the results of the entire project.
