Significant Decrease of Tourists’ Arrivals and Overnight Stays in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In June 2020, there were a total of 26,542 tourist arrivals in Bosnia and Hercegovina which represent the increase by 552.70% as compared to May 2020 and decrease by 85.2% as compared to June 2019.

Tourists spent 55,051 overnight stays which represent the increase by 301.5% as compared to May 2020 and decrease by 84.3% as compared to June 2019. Domestic tourists’ share of the total number of overnight stays was 75.5% and foreign tourists’ share was 24.5%.

The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists increased by 245.3% as compared to May 2020 and decreased by 60.3% as compared to June 2019. The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 706.6% as compared to May 2020 and decreased by 94.5% as compared to June 2019.

Concerning the structure of overnight stays by foreign tourists in June 2020, the most of them (83.4%) were realized by tourists from Serbia with (46,1%), Croatia (21.3%), Germany (4.4%)%), Montenegro (3.8%), Slovenia (3.0%), Hungary (2.5%) and Saudi Arabia (2.3%). Tourists from other countries realized 16.6% of tourist nights.

Regarding the average detention of foreign tourist stays in our country on the first place comes: Saudi Arabia with an average stay by 14.2 nights, Hungary 11.5 nights, Australia 6.9 nights, Brazil 5.8 nights and Slovakia 5.2 nights.

Available rooms, apartments and camping sites for tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina in June 2020 amounted to 15.766 which is 24.6% decrease compared to June 2019. The number of available beds was 33.486 beds, which is decreased by 25.8%, compared to the same month of 2019.

In June 2020, in the activity – hotels and similar accommodation, a number of rooms and apartments available to tourists amounted to 14,379, which is a decrease of 21,2% compared to June 2019, and a number of available beds amounted to 29.128 which is a decrease of 22.4%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

The net occupancy rate of permanent beds in June 2020 was 5.4%.
