Six complex procedures using the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) method were successfully performed at the Department of Interventional Cardiology of the Clinic for Heart, Vascular and Rheumatism of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS). This percutaneous technique under local anesthesia allows the opening of chronically clogged coronary arteries, improves blood flow to the heart and significantly increases the chances of patients with severe heart diseases for a better and longer life.
“All patients successfully underwent revascularization, which re-established normal blood flow in the heart blood vessels. Such procedures are of crucial importance for patients with severe forms of heart disease and provide new hope for patients who previously did not have many options,” emphasizes Dr. Ediz Porović, Head of the Department of Interventional Cardiology at the KCUS, who led the medical team responsible for this success.
The interventions were performed in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Florim Cuculi, Head of the Heart Center of the Hospital in Lucerne (Switzerland), who has been collaborating with KCUS for two years in implementing the most modern treatment methods in the field of interventional cardiology.
”Thanks to Dr. Cuculi’s expertise and continuous cooperation with international experts, we are improving the quality of healthcare in Bosnia and Herzegovina and providing patients with top-notch medical care in accordance with the latest world standards,” emphasized Dr. Porović, KCUS announced.
