At the initiative of Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, the Slovenian government today adopted a decision prohibiting the export and transit of military equipment and weapons from or through the Republic of Slovenia to Israel, as well as imports from Israel to Slovenia, according to AA.
This decision follows previous announcements by Prime Minister Golob, who has repeatedly made it clear, most recently on the sidelines of the June European Council, that Slovenia will act independently if the European Union is unable to adopt concrete measures by mid-July.
The website of the Slovenian government states that the European Union, due to internal disagreements and lack of unity, is currently unable to fulfill this task.
“The result is shameful: people in Gaza are dying because they are systematically denied humanitarian aid. They are dying under the rubble, without access to drinking water, food and basic medical care. This is a complete blockade of humanitarian access and a deliberate denial of basic survival conditions. In such circumstances, it is the duty of every responsible state to act, even if it means taking the initiative ahead of others,” it stated, adding:
“Slovenia consistently and principledly advocates respect for international law and the protection of human rights. Therefore, the government of Prime Minister Robert Golob will prepare additional national measures against the current Israeli government in the coming weeks, whose actions constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law.”
