The Slovenian Contingent serving with EUFOR and NATO operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina held a Change of Command ceremony at Camp Butmir on 23rd October 2026.
During the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Matjaž Kavčič transferred command of the Slovenian Contingent to Lieutenant Colonel Miroslav Kovačević. The ceremony marked the formal handover of responsibility between the outgoing and incoming commanders and recognised the continued contribution of Slovenian personnel to international military operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Slovenia has long been a valued contributor to multinational security efforts in the country, and the Change of Command reflected the professionalism, continuity and commitment that underpin the work of national contingents serving within EUFOR and NATO structures.
The handover also provided an opportunity to recognise the service of Lieutenant Colonel Kavčič and the personnel under his command, while welcoming Lieutenant Colonel Kovačević as he assumes responsibility for the next phase of the contingent’s service.
Regular rotations and leadership transitions are an important part of maintaining the readiness and continuity of multinational forces, ensuring that experience, responsibility and operational focus are effectively carried forward.
EUFOR remains grateful for Slovenia’s continued contribution and for the professionalism of Slovenian personnel serving in support of peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
