Three people died on Sunday in the crash of a small plane near the football field in Gančani in the far east of Slovenia, according to the Police Department of Murska Sobota.
As reported by the Sobotainfo portal, there were three people in the Maribor Aviation Center plane who did not survive the accident. According to the portal’s initial information, there were supposed to be four people in the plane, but one of them did not take part in the flight. It is assumed that there were locals from Prekmurje on the plane.
The plane, owned by the Maribor Aviation Center, took off from the Maribor airport, where the weather was sunny, towards Prekmurje, where there was thick fog, which also allegedly contributed to the accident.
The representative of the Aviation Center Maribor, Vili Kolar, confirmed to Radio Maribor that it was their aircraft. “We saw in the flight plan that the plane took off at 11 a.m. We were informed about the news by others, but air traffic control could not confirm it because the plane was outside the control area of Maribor,” he explained.
According to the first findings of the police, a smaller plane crashed. Competent services are on the scene and are investigating. The police, the investigating judge, the prosecutor are at the scene, and the aviation inspector is also waiting, Hina writes.
