Small Plane crashes on New York Highway

A small plane has crashed in Westchester County, New York, killing one person, state police said.

The crash happened late on a highway in Harrison. Police confirmed that there were two people on board the single-engine Tecnam P-2008, and that one person was killed.

According to air traffic control, the plane took off from Linden, New Jersey, at 6:09 p.m. local time.

It was heading north along the Hudson River. The plane descended suddenly at 1,000 feet per minute, turned sharply to the right toward White Plains Airport and made a distress call before crashing.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the pilot reported engine trouble before the crash, which occurred at about 7:15 p.m. local time near Westchester County Airport.
