Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, spoke today in Sarajevo with the Minister for European Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, Jessica Roswall, about the current political and economic situation in the country and the region, with special reference to the process of European integration.

Cvijanović welcomed the decision to start accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressing her gratitude to Sweden for the support shown at the European Council Summit.

She assessed that the leadership of the European Union recognized the progress and results achieved by the institutions in BiH in fulfilling the conditions, and emphasized the importance of adopting the negotiation framework for BiH as soon as possible, announced the Cabinet of Željka Cvijanović.

On this occasion, Cvijanović emphasized that the positive decision represents an additional incentive for the continuation of the reform process, and added that “on the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is no place for the interventions that happened in the past by various high-ranking representatives”, stressing that “any imposition” is particularly inadmissible by the unelected foreigner Christian Schmidt”.

She emphasized that one of the main priorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming period is to demonstrate the full democratic capacity through dialogue and agreement between domestic political actors and institutions at all levels of government, as the EU normally requires in its conditions.

Minister Roswall congratulated the opening of negotiations and called for the continuation of the reform process in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She expressed her support for the enlargement process and emphasized its importance for the European Union itself, as well as for the candidate countries. She reiterated that Sweden, as one of the largest bilateral donors, will continue to provide support to Bosnia and Herzegovina through numerous projects within the framework of development cooperation.

Speaking about the bilateral relations of the two countries, the interlocutors agreed that they are friendly, with a satisfactory dynamic of political dialogue, and expressed the hope that there will be an intensification of cooperation in the coming period, according to a statement from the Public Relations Service of the BiH Presidency.
