The main board of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) has unanimously decided to hold early elections for the president of Republika Srpska.

“A strategic decision has been made that shows that the interests of Republika Srpska are more important than any party or individual,” said party president Milorad Dodik at a session of the main board held in Banja Luka.

Dodik said that the SNSD Election Headquarters, which was formed for the previous elections, would continue its work on the upcoming early elections.

As he stated, the SNSD should hold early elections for the president of Republika Srpska in order to “prevent an attempt to devastate and destabilize RS.”

“The SNSD should propose a decision to the National Assembly of Republika Srpska as soon as possible to elect an acting president of Republika Srpska until the early elections, and perhaps even longer,” said Dodik.

He said that he was determined to continue to fight for the party’s policies as president of the SNSD.

The name of the SNSD candidate for the president of the RS was not discussed at the session of the Governing Council, and Dodik said that the parties from the coalition will not apply to participate, and that he expects support from them.

As stated, the deadline for applying for the president of the RS is October 14, but the name will be known earlier.

In addition to Dodik, the session was attended by Željka Cvijanović, Miroslav Bojić, Radovan Višković, Luka Petrović, Sanja Vulić, and Srđan Amidžić and Igor Dodik.

The largest opposition party in the RS, the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS), confirmed its participation in the elections yesterday and nominated university professor Branko Blanuša for the president of the RS. The SDS called on all opposition parties to support Blanuša.

At a special session on September 24, the RS National Assembly decided that parties based in the RS would independently decide on their participation in the early elections for the president of the Republika Srpska.
