solemn academyMany people from the political, diplomatic and social life attended the solemn academy to mark the Independence Day of BiH that was held in Sarajevo City Hall.

The ceremony was attended by the member of the Presidency of BiH Bakir Izetbegovic, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdic, President of the Assembly of the RBiH from 1992 to 1996 Miro Lazovic, a former member of the Presidency of the RBiH Mirko Pejanovic, Minister for Human Rights and Refugees Semiha Borovac and many others.

Academician and former member of the wartime Presidency of BiH Ejup Ganic said that the past time was difficult and that the war was inevitable with or without the referendum.

“We decided to keep the continuity of the state that existed for centuries. That’s why we asked people how to continue and their answer was to continue as a sovereign and independent state,” said Ganic.

He noted that they are proud of that decision and that history will show that this is the best solution.

President of the Assembly of the RBiH from 1992 to 1996 Miro Lazovic said that on the 1st of March the will of the citizens of BiH was to build an independent state and that in that will was woven courage, perseverance and undeniable desire to preserve the independence of BiH during the breakup of the former Yugoslavia.

A former member of the Presidency of the RBiH Mirko Pejanovic noted that citizens of BiH freely decided to vote for independence, sovereignty, and integrity of BiH.

“The data are known as historical facts. 64 % of citizens who are registered in the electoral roll came on the referendum, and 99 % of them voted positively on the referendum question,” said Pejanovic.
