The Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luigi Soreca, today expressed unquestionable support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path, as well as the EU’s commitment to assisting its population in various projects, regardless of the country’s status.

Soreca met with the leadership of the House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tomislav Martinović, Speaker of the House of Peoples, and Slađan Ilić and Nezim Alagić, Vice-Speakers of that House.

On that occasion, they discussed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path, emphasizing the need to accelerate it. The interlocutors agreed that there is no alternative to the path towards membership that Bosnia and Herzegovina has begun, and that our country is culturally, sociologically, geographically and economically part of Europe.

Soreca also expressed words of encouragement in efforts to accelerate the European path and meet the conditions that Bosnia and Herzegovina faces on its path to membership.

Martinović stressed that all institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina have a lot of work to do, but he also emphasized the commitment of the highest legislative body in the Federation of BiH to fulfilling its share of obligations, adopting legal solutions and harmonizing with EU legislation.

He emphasized the importance of using the experiences of members that have gone through the accession process, such as the Republic of Croatia, emphasizing the importance of the support that the Republic of Croatia provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path.

With the expressed desire for continued good cooperation between the EU Delegation and the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, the participants of the meeting expressed their commitment to joint engagement with the aim of accelerating the European path so that Bosnia and Herzegovina can transform its candidate status into a full member status as soon as possible. And this, they emphasized, is only possible through joint engagement of domestic authorities with the continued support that BiH has among EU members and institutions, the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH announced.
