Soreca: EU Membership is the best Guarantor of the Stability of BiH

Membership in the European Union is the best guarantee of stability and prosperity for Bosnia and Herzegovina, said the Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luigi Soreca.

“There are only a few steps left for Bosnia and Herzegovina to move forward on its path towards the EU – a Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) and a Law on Courts that are in line with EU standards, as well as a Chief Negotiator and a team that can lead negotiations and represent the country with one voice,” Soreca reminded.

Unfortunately, Soreca pointed out, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has failed to make progress in fulfilling these steps today.

“Polls show that the majority of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina throughout the country want a future in the EU. The European Union has stated at the highest level that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s place is in the EU. The missing element is political will. We call on political actors to focus on implementing the remaining steps. The opportunity for progress on the path towards the EU must not be missed,” said the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Luigi Soreca.
