Speed up Process of Resolving Surplus Weapons and Ammunition

EUFOR-3The Commander of EUFOR Dieter Heidecker thinks that in BIH it is necessary to accelerate the process of resolving surplus arms and ammunition, which would reduce the number of storage sites that is provided to members of the BiH Armed Forces.

“It is estimated that BiH has about 17.000 tons of surplus ammunition that represents a serious threat to a safe and secure environment’’, said Heidecker at yesterday’s reception in Banja Luka, which was convened with representatives of the British Embassy to BiH upon the completion of the competition in military skills at Manjača.

Heidecker said that the international community and EUFOR are ready to support the efforts of the BiH government to speed up the process of resolving surplus weapons and ammunition.

Today he handed a saber on behalf of the United Kingdom to the BiH Armed Forces team, which won today’s competition in military skills.

The Deputy British Ambassador to BiH Jo Lomas said that participation of the Irish Guards in reserved forces of EUFOR demonstrates the commitment of Great Britain for the continued stability of BiH.

“We hope that the situation in BIH will remain peaceful and we believe that EUFOR is one of the most important mechanisms in that”, concluded Lomas.

The Netherlands and Denmark could ask for additional conditions for opening Negotiations with BiH?
