Final works on the factory for potato processing “Srebreničanka” are in progress. The plant, which has been talked about in Srebrenica for the past year, will be officially opened by the end of this year or by the beginning of 2016.
For starters, the investment worth nine million BAM means opening of 50 new jobs, as well as the economic development of the municipality.
In the nutrition of the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina, potato is a type of food which takes a significant place. However, there is no factory in the region which deals with processing of this kind of vegetable. Frozen French fries, which can be found in the fridges of the markets and on the menus of hotels and restaurants, are mostly imported from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. That fact, as well as favorable soil and climate conditions, was a reason enough for the investors to start constructing the factory for the production of French fries in Srebrenica.
“Fertile and ecologically healthy valleys, which there are plenty at this area, are suitable for growing potatoes. Land capacities, tradition of the cultivation of this vegetable and good cooperation with the municipal authorities were a motive to launch this business”, said Osman Agić, the Technical Director of the factory “Srebreničanka”.
Besides domestic, foreign capital also participates in the construction of the plant. Company “Global Trade Ida Sany” from Istanbul and “Total Trade International” from Belgrade, with the majority of capital in Azerbaijan, are credited for the construction of the factory covering 3,500 square meters.
“We are already negotiating with companies from Turkey, Kuwait and Russia, signing of the contract on cooperation is also expected these days. We intend to export 70 percent of production to those countries, while 30 percent of products will be placed on the market of B&H”, Agić said.
