State Department: Cancellation of Conference of European Rabbis in Sarajevo Disturbing

The State Department condemned the cancellation of the Conference of European Rabbis in Sarajevo, stating that anti-Semitism cannot be tolerated.

The State Department stressed that it was deeply disturbed by the cancellation of the meeting in Sarajevo.

“Anti-Semitism cannot be tolerated, and the United States will continue to call for the protection of Jewish life around the world,” the Office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism at the US State Department announced.

The meeting of the Standing Committee of the Conference of European Rabbis, which brings together chief rabbis from across Europe, was scheduled to be held in Sarajevo from June 16 to 18.

However, the management of the Swisshotel, where the conference was to be held, informed the organizers that it was canceling the meeting for “security reasons.”

The President of the European Conference of Rabbis, Pinchas Goldschmidt, said that Sarajevo had been “declared a city of openness and tolerance for everyone except Jews” by what had been done.

He said that after the shameful attack on European religious groups, BiH should be banned from joining the EU.

The European Conference of Rabbis was founded in 1956 with its headquarters in Munich and today brings together around a thousand rabbis who work from Dublin to Vladivostok.
