Advisor to the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Derek Chollet, left out Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of his several-day visit to the countries of the Western Balkans, although it was foreseen in the original plan of the visit.

Originally, the visit was supposed to take place in December and on the agenda it was planned to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, but due to a positive test for Covid-19, the visit was canceled.

“We do not have information about the visit to announce at the moment, but the Advisor is looking forward to visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future,” the spokesperson of the State Department told FENA.

The State Department announced the visit of Senior Advisor Derek Chollet from January 11 to 13 to Skopje, Pristina and Belgrade, but neither the US Embassy in Sarajevo nor the State Department gave FENA more information about the decision.

The visit should be dedicated to peace, stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans.

The US Secretary of State’s Special Advisor Derek Chollet met today in Skopje with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovačevski and continues his tour with a visit to Kosovo, where he is supposed to meet with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as well as representatives of the opposition.

He intends to discuss with leaders in Kosovo the US efforts to help advance Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration, including through the EU-mediated Dialogue to reach a comprehensive agreement on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

Chollet will also visit Belgrade on Thursday, where discussions are expected on energy security, regional economic integration and progress toward Serbia’s goal of joining the EU.

The State Department stated that Chollet will also discuss the role of Serbia in strengthening regional peace and security and its engagement in the dialogue led by the European Union with the aim of normalizing relations with Kosovo.
