A magnitude 6.1 earthquake shook parts of western Turkey, with its effects felt as far away as Istanbul and Izmir.
The epicenter was recorded 17 kilometers from Bigadice and 48 kilometers from Balıkesir.
“It was felt a lot, but it lasted a short time”, “It was felt for 10 seconds”, “It lasted 15 to 20 seconds”, “The earthquake was felt strongly near Izmir”, were some of the comments on the EMSC website.
The hypocenter of the earthquake, according to data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, is located at a depth of approximately 11 kilometers below the surface of the earth.
There are no reports of material damage or injuries so far.
