Symphony Orchestra Mostar held a “New Year’s” concert in Mostar on Friday evening, just like the one in Vienna that is being held on January 1, every year since 1939.

The program included the works of father and son Strauss as well as the unavoidable Mozart, two overtures, waltzes and polkas, and the orchestra was directed by the Viennese conductor of Dalmatian roots, Giuseppe (Josip) Terza.

Director of the Symphony Orchestra Mostar Snjezana Zovko noted that the orchestra wanted to offer an unforgettable evening to the citizens of Mostar and Herzegovina.

“Our main wish is to return the reputation and honour that the Symphony Orchestra had 20 years ago, but the main idea is to support the candidacy of the City of Mostar for the European Capital of Culture in 2024, and is there any better way to help this beautiful idea than music,” said director Zovko.

About forty musicians from Mostar and the entire Herzegovina, Sarajevo, Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Rijeka, Varazdin, Cakovec and Osijek participated in the concert, which was attended by numerous citizens of Mostar.
