Syrian rebels announced that their forces entered the Syrian capital Damascus overnight and in the early hours of the morning, officially ending the rule of Bashar Al Assad.

The rebels confirmed the information about entering Damascus on Telegram groups.

“Our forces have begun entering the capital Damascus. The tyrant Assad has left the city. Syria is free. This marks the end of a dark era and the beginning of a new one. People who were displaced or imprisoned during the half-century rule of the Assad regime can now return home. This will be a new Syria where everyone lives in peace and where justice will reign,” said members of the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham group.

In addition to the opposition, information that Assad has left Damascus has also been confirmed by other independent sources.

“Syrian President Bashar al-Assad boarded a plane and left Damascus for an unknown destination, Reuters news agency reported, citing two senior Syrian officials. The SOHR war monitor also said that a private plane that left Damascus airport was likely carrying Assad. Government troops at the airport were evacuated after his departure,” the statement said.

In the past two weeks, Syrian rebels have made a major breakthrough from the direction of Idlib and have captured the largest and most important cities in a very short time. This includes Aleppo, Homs, Hama and Daraa, a city in the very south of the country.
