Tehran Denies Trump’s Claim: “We Did Not Request a Meeting”

Iran has denied US President Donald Trump’s claim that Tehran had requested a meeting on Iran’s nuclear program.

“We have not made any request to the US side for a meeting,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, according to the state-run Tasnim news agency.

Trump said on Monday that Washington would hold talks with Iran on nuclear issues.

“We have scheduled talks with Iran and they want to talk,” Trump told reporters at the White House, along with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

On June 22, US B-2 bombers dropped 14 GBU-57 bunker buster bombs on Iran’s Fordo and Natanz nuclear sites, while dozens of submarine-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired at the Isfahan facility, as part of Washington’s campaign against Iran’s nuclear program.

The sixth round of talks between the US and Iran was scheduled for June 15, but two days earlier, Israel carried out airstrikes on Iranian military, nuclear and civilian targets.

The 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran ended with a US-brokered ceasefire that took effect on June 24.
