Dozens of people were arrested on Tuesday in a major nationwide operation related to an investigation by anti-mafia investigators in the Sicilian province of Caltanissetta, sources said, according to ANSA.
The police executed orders for the introduction of restrictive measures for 55 people in dawn raids in which they also searched for weapons and drugs.
About 500 police officers participated in the operation.
The suspects are charged with crimes including mafia association, extortion and drug trafficking, with possession of weapons of war and explosives as aggravating factors.
