The 32nd anniversary of the war crime committed against the Croatian inhabitants of that place was marked by the laying of wreaths at the monument to those killed and a holy mass in Trusina near Konjic.
The crime took place in the morning hours of April 16, 1993, when members of the Special Purpose Unit of the RBiH Army “Zulfikar” stormed the village, killing 22 people, 15 of whom were civilians.
“It is important on this day to remember our loved ones and honor them. It is the least we can do. Likewise, we should forgive our, so to speak, enemies, those who committed that crime. We should also pray for them,” said the president of the Association of Families of Croatian Veterans Killed, Died and Missing in the Homeland War Konjic Dragica Tomić.
Don Marin Marić, pastor of the parish office of Obri in Kostajnica near Konjic, reminded that this year’s anniversary of the crime in Trusina is marked in Holy Week.
“The message of Holy Week is through the cross, the resurrection and love. We forgive in love, and by coming here to the anniversary of the massacre in Trusina, we spread what our faith teaches us, which is that we must not forget, but I truly believe that those who survived have forgiven,” said Don Marin.
He added that the truth should be known about every crime committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, because, as he pointed out, there is no coexistence without love, truth and justice.
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the crimes in Trusina sentenced five people, members of the military unit of the RBiH Army “Zulfikar”, to a total of 55 and a half years in prison, however, the president of the Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the Homeland War of the Municipality of Konjic, Marinko Romić, points out that those who planned and ordered this crime were not punished.
“True, the direct perpetrators of the crime were punished, five of them. I hope that in the future the judicial institutions will do something to discover and punish the perpetrators of this crime because no one had the right to commit something like that in the name of anyone,” said Romić.
Today’s commemoration of the Trusina crime was attended by representatives of associations stemming from the Homeland War, representatives of the city, county and entity authorities, the delegation of the HNS of BiH and the delegation of the Republic of Croatia.
