Croatian national team player Ana Maria Marković moved from Switzerland’s Grasshopper to Portugal’s Braga, her new club reported on Saturday.
“This is my first experience outside my city. I didn’t want to leave my country because of my family, but it’s important for my career to progress,” said the 24-year-old striker in the northern city of Braga.
So far she has only played in Switzerland. As a child, she moved from Split to Zurich, where she played for the juniors of that club, and since 2020 she has been playing for city rival Grasshopper.
“I am very happy that I will now wear the colors of Braga. The Portuguese league is great, I watched a few games. I have a friend in the team, Vania (Duarte), and she showed me how professional the club is. It’s the right step in my career,” said Marković.
Braga finished fifth in the championship last season.
Marković pointed out that she is “very motivated”. He will wear the white number 27 on the red jersey.
“First of all, I want to help the team. I am a fast player, mentally strong, I always talk to my teammates on the court and try to help them maintain a positive attitude”, she said.
“I will always have a positive attitude and I hope to prove how fast I can be between the lines,” she said.
Marković made 10 appearances for the Croatian national team, N1 writes.
