The House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA) adopted without votes of the deputies from the Bosniak Caucus the Law on permanent and temporary residence.
Earlier, this caucus warned that the law will have a negative impact on returnees, and today after the law was adopted in urgent procedure, a deputy from the Bosniak Caucus Safet Softic (SDA) announced that they would file an appeal to the Constitutional Court to review two to three controversial items in the law.
Former Minister of Civil Affairs and now a deputy of the Serb caucus Sredoje Nović said today that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina should be satisfied that the law on residence after two years of deadlock has been adopted.
“I still say this is a European law that will be to no detriment to any citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is a good move that will prevent registration of citizens at false addresses and places of residence,” he explained.
Vice Chairman of the House Ognjen Tadic (SDS) said that he was sorry the Bosniak Caucus did not vote for this bill, but said that the deputies showed that they should be persistent and that this leads to the desired results.
He expressed hope that all people in BiH would understand that it is more than necessary to restore order in all issues relating to permanent and temporary residenc and that this law regardless of the political debate will get the support of all citizens.
A deputy from the Croat Caucus Martin Raguž (HDZ 1990) is also of the opinion that this is a positive step because too much time was spent on debating on this issue.
