The “cryptocurrency king” should be extradited to South Korea

Lawyer Goran Rodić told Beta Agency today that his client, South Korean citizen “cryptocurrency king” Do Kwon (Kwon), should soon be extradited to South Korea because the court’s decision has become final and enforceable.

The Appellate Court of Montenegro today confirmed the decision of the High Court allowing the extradition of a South Korean citizen to South Korea.

In the last in a series of decisions of the Montenegrin courts, it is stated that the request for extradition to the United States of America is rejected and that this decision is legally binding. Until Kvon, the extradition check is in the Reception Center near Spuž.

Do Kwon was wanted by both states for at least $40 billion worth of cryptocurrency fraud. The damage caused to investors by the crash of his cryptocurrencies Luna and Terra is estimated at this amount.

The courts in Montenegro made different verdicts, from the decision to be made by the Minister of Justice, that he should be extradited to the USA, and that he should be extradited to South Korea.

Analysts in Podgorica assess that this is primarily a political, not a legal, case. Before the 2023 parliamentary elections, former Prime Minister Dritan Abazović accused current Prime Minister Milojko Spajić of ties to Do Kwon, which Spajić denied.

Do Kwon was arrested at the end of March 2023 at the airport in Podgorica on a South Korean warrant.

On June 16, 2023, he was convicted for having a forged passport with which he intended to travel to Dubai on a private flight from Podgorica. Because of this act, the South Korean “crypto currency king” served a four-month sentence in a prison near Podgorica.

After serving his sentence, Do Kvon was sent to the Shelter for Foreigners near Podgorica, where he awaits extradition.

His associate Hon Cang Jon, who was arrested together with him in Podgorica on February 5 of this year and extradited to South Korea, was convicted of falsifying documents.
