The current Situation with Migrants in BiH is satisfactory

The current migrant situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is satisfactory and competent institutions manage migration effectively. Currently, there are about 850 migrants in the reception centers and BiH has adequate capacities for their accommodation, said BiH Minister of Security Nenad Nešić at a meeting with Olivier Onidi, Deputy Director General of the Directorate General for Internal Affairs in the European Commission (DGHOME).

Nešić and Onidi discussed the implementation of the European Union’s Action Plan for the Western Balkans in the management of migration and borders and the continuation of partnership relations and cooperation in that area.

The plan contains operational measures for more efficient management of migration, strengthening the partnership with the Western Balkans in the light of accession to the European Union and harmonization with the EU acquis, as well as actions to be taken within the EU. The priority is to strengthen border management, ensure fast asylum procedures, take measures against migrant smuggling, encourage cooperation in the field of readmission and return, and achieve harmonization of visa policies.

Nešić pointed out that for the continuation of the successful fight against illegal migration, it is important to continue the support of the EU for the strengthening of capacities, infrastructure and the procurement of equipment for security agencies.

He stressed his commitment to implementing the 32 recommendations of the European Commission related to the Ministry of Security of BiH, with full respect for the Constitution and the Dejon Peace Agreement, as well as the necessary entity and political compromise.

They also discussed the signing of the Agreement with FRONTEX and EUROJUST, the fight against people and weapons smuggling, and the challenges BiH faces in connection with radicalization, the Ministry of Security of BiH announced.
