“The EU Is Preparing Additional Counter-Tariffs On Imports From The U.S.”

The European Union (EU) is preparing additional counter-tariffs on imports from the United States (U.S.) worth 72 billion euros (84 billion dollars), said European Commissioner for Trade MarosSefcovic on Monday, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs. The EU still hopes to find a negotiated solution to the dispute with Washington over alleged trade imbalances and the threat of increased tariffs, and to avoid imposing counter-tariffs.

Trump recently announced that as of August 1st, he is introducing 30% tariffs on imports from the bloc. EU trade ministers met on Monday in Brussels to discuss how to respond to the latest announcement and to prepare countermeasures. The list, which has now been presented to EU member states, is based on a proposal by the European Commission from May and initially included mainly industrial and agricultural goods with an import volume of around 95 billion euros.

After consultations with capitals and industry representatives, the list was modified. Sefcovic did not provide any details about which goods were removed from the list.
