Students and teachers of Primary School “Izet Šabić” in Vogošća will now benefit from a completely renovated sports hall, thanks to the financial support of the European Union through the EU4Sport project. The renovated sports hall, which was previously in poor condition, now provides better conditions for physical activity and sports education for 430 students at this school.
In the presence of students, teaching staff and school director Medžid Hasković, the completion of works on the sports hall was marked yesterday in the school premises. On behalf of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina the event was attended by Mojca Krisper Figueroa, Team Leader in the Cooperation Section.
The European Union provided 95.000 euros for the renovation of this sports hall aiming to promote physical health among youth and contribute to better educational and sporting opportunities for students.
“We are marking today the completion of the renovation of the sports hall at ‘Izet Šabić’ Primary School in Vogošća, one of 17 sports halls in educational institutions that we have been renovating across Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am pleased that our support to this school will directly benefit over 400 students, providing them with better conditions for physical activities, teamwork and personal development. This project is another clear example of the European Union’s commitment to improving the quality of education and the wellbeing of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The EU remains a reliable partner, dedicated to supporting the future of the country and all its citizens“, said Krisper Figueroa.
“I am delighted to witness today the completion of this important project to renovate and modernize the sports hall in our school. We would like to thank the European Union for its support, which benefits not only our students, but also many sports clubs that work in the interest of our students. Through this project, the hall, changing rooms, and corridors have all been fully renovated, providing a space that will benefit many more future generations of students,” said director Hasković.
The renovation of the sports hall is part of the broader EU4Sport initiative. This project, worth over 2.1 million euros, has supported the renovation and modernization of sports halls in 16 elementary schools in Sarajevo (6 primary schools), Ustikolina, Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje, Zenica, Visoko, Vogošća, Tešanj, Rogatica, Teslić, Šipovo and East New Sarajevo, as well as the sports halls at the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Sarajevo.
EU4Sport is one of numerous projects of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which aim to strengthen the quality of education as one of the key elements of the country’s development.
