The European Parliament has adopted an amendment calling for sanctions against Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency member Milorad Dodik.
The amendment was tabled by MEPs Pedro Marques, Tonino Picula and Thijs Reuten, and was voted in favor by 504 MEPs. 93 deputies voted against, and 72 abstained.
The amendment was supported by the majority of the EPP group, while the Croatian HDZ remained with the radical right and populists.
“The EU strongly condemns the unconstitutional, secessionist moves of the Republika Srpska authorities aimed at creating parallel institutions for medicines and medical devices, taxation, justice, defense, and security, which would weaken the state structures of Bosnia and Herzegovina and become an existential threat to state unity and territorial integrity.”
“The EU condemns the harmful role of regional actors and Russia’s external disturbances and calls on the Council to impose targeted sanctions on Milorad Dodik and his associates for his corrupt practices, continued destabilization of the country and undermining BiH’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
